Teen Programs for Fall 2008

CALLING YOUNG STAR WARS FANS The Library may host a Star Wars role-playing group for ages 10-21. The program would consist of twice-monthly, 4-hour sessions of role-playing guided by Phillip Hughes, formerly of Games Plus in Mount Prospect. Mr. Hughes supplies everything you need – you bring your enthusiasm for Star Wars and your vivid imagination! The first campaign will be The Enemy From Within – a tale of suspense and intrigue. Scheduling TBA; please call Noël at 352-0576 x 35 if you’re interested in joining the group. A minimum of four committed participants is necessary.

WAY COOL FILM SCHOOL: SCREAMWRITER’S WORKSHOP
Tuesdays, October 14 – November 18, 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Aspiring screenwriters will develop and write a short, horror film script in this six-week workshop that includes screenings of some bone-chilling short films and classic scary scenes. All writing will be done collaboratively in-class. (No homework!) At the end of the workshop, everyone will get a copy of the finished script and a CD sampler of songs that the writers select for their film’s soundtrack. Recommended for ages 12 – 14. Advance registration is required. A minimum of four participants is necessary.
* Note: This is a writing workshop only. No actual filming will be done in this program.

BABYSITTING CLINIC
Monday, October 20, 4 - 6:30 pm and Monday, October 27, 4 – 5:30 pm

Instructor George Scukanec from the Willowbrook Park District will be your guide through this 4-hour, hands-on clinic, covering baby and child care, first aid, and babysitter training. If you attend both sessions, you will receive your official Babysitting Certification at the end of the second class! Cost: $10.00, payable at the first session. Open to ages 11-15. Registration is limited to 20 and ends October 12.

YOUNG ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION
Wednesday, October 1, 4:30 - 5:30 pm

Teens who want to discuss good books in a comfy setting with interesting people – here’s your chance! We’ll be talking about Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies, a thrill ride of a book that explores themes of physical beauty and freedom of choice. Copies of the book will be available for checkout at the Patron Services desk beginning September 3. Please register by calling Noël at 352-0576.


INTRODUCING NEW TEEN FICTION

ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

Celebrate Halloween with Dr. Frank N. Furter and his sweetly bizarre group of partyhounds! Props are provided for this interactive movie experience – but we do suggest this movie for older teens, 15 and above, due to the film’s mature content. A minimum of 8 participants is necessary.
