IM the Young Adult Librarian!
Hey, guess what? Now you can ask the young adult librarian a reference question (like "Do you have a copy of ________?" or "What time do you close?" or "Who wrote 'A Tale of Two Cities'?" or "What movie or craft or book discussion are you doing this month?")using your AOL Instant Messenger account!
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM)is free and can be a useful reference tool. If you don't have it, ask your parents to get it (go to aol.com). If you do have it, add LaGrange Public Library to your buddy list -- my address is lgpublib. I'll try to be on between 3:30 and 4:30 Monday thru Thursday to answer your library questions, and we'll see how it goes.

YOUNG ADULT MOVIES IN THE LIBRARY
Thursday, September 14th at 4 pm, and Friday, October 13th at 7 pm.
Step into our lovely Library Theatre, help yourself to some popcorn, pop open the drink you brought, and settle down to a great movie on our sizeable screen. In September the selection will be I, Robot, the great Isaac Asimov science fiction tale. And on Friday, the 13th of October, join us for the creepy classic film Night of the Living Dead.
OMIGOSH – IT’S ORIGAMI
Thursday, September 28, 4:00 –5:00 pm
It doesn’t matter if you’re all thumbs at paper folding – join us anyway! We’ll try our hands at making a few simple shapes – including a jumping frog and a dollar-bill ring. (BTW – nice try, but bring your own dollar bill!)
TEEN BOOK DISCUSSIONS
Thursday, September 21 and Thursday, October 19, 4:00-5:30 pm
The teen book discussions continue in September with Flipped by Wendelin van Draanen, a clever story told from two (very different) points of view. In October, we’ll discuss Rodman Philbrick’s The Last Book in the Universe, a futuristic look at a grim America where reading has gone way out of style. Please join us for snacks and thought-provoking discussion! Register in the YA Department beginning August 22.
BANNED BOOKS WEEK
September 17 through October 8
Fight for it! Demonstrate it! Celebrate it! Demand it! For decades, librarians and other intelligent readers have fought hard to preserve your right to read whatever books you choose – and the fight still goes on! Demonstrate your commitment to an open-minded America by reading a banned book during our three-week celebration, and enter to win a button or a T-shirt that tells the world how you feel. Look for displays and entry forms in the Young Adult and Reference Departments. Use your freedom to choose!
TEEN READ WEEK
October 15 through 21
How do you live an active life? Is it through sports? Volunteering? Community groups? Share your ideas during this year’s Teen Read Week: Get active @ Your Library! Check out the display during this week near the Young Adult desk to find some cool ways to get active, and enter to win a great prize while you’re at it!
TRUE GHOST STORIES AND CANDY SWAP
Saturday, October 28, 7:00-8:30 pm (after the Library is closed!)
Back again, by popular demand – it’s the second annual Teen Halloween True Ghost Story and Candy Swap. Have you – or one of your friends – had an encounter with a ghost or a haunted place? Come and share your stories and help us creep each other out. Bring a friend and a whole bag of candy to swap and share. PIZZA WILL BE SERVED! Registration is required and begins October 1. Stop by the Young Adult Department, call 352-0576 x 35, or email Noël at zethmayrn@lagrangelibrary.org.
